The Spanish Ministry of Agriculture awards every year the best cheese to promote Spanish cheeses in national and international markets. The Foods of Spain Award to the Best Cheese of 2013 was handed this year to a ‘Cabrales’ cheese. The blue cheese from Asturias impresses with its strong and sometimes spicy flavour. The milk used to produce this cheese comes from the Picos de Europa Mountains, in Asturias. Like the Gorgonzola and Roquefort, the Cabrales Cheese has a Protected Designation of Origin in the European Union.
